Okay my dad needs a new work horse vehicle as he's had an offer from someone who wants more for his vw caddy than he bought it for.
He wants a volvo estate (newer kind). something like an 840 perhaps.
are they any good? are volvos tough cars?
it cant be a van, it has to be a long car to keep it practical (he'll take the rear seats out).
anything else come to mind? cheers!

I have a T4 saloon and it is solid and fast....
T5 estate though if he is wanting a estate one, can't go wrong.

850 Estate, or the slightly newer but just as good original V70. Can't go wrong, can even get them in TDi form if he wants some extra MPG.

My 'rents have a 850 AWD (v rare - only made for a year) this was then a V70 AWD - its not a big beast - just the estate with AWD - 2.5 and light pressure turbo, goes like stink!!! And has all the "extras" - leather, air con, alloys, heated seats etc etc. And still returns about 35mpg! He brought it a few years back for bout £10k but you can pick up 850's really cheap now for like £1500 for a mint condition one!!! We've used ours as a work horse a few times before - moving house etc and with the rear seats down, its just as capable as a van - just more comfortable and quicker!!!
