a series 2 escort RST! i know a lot of you will say keep the corsa but i have always had a bit of a soft spot for them and one has come up locally, but im not sure if i am prepared to get rid of the corsa for it.
i have a 1.4 sport at the minute so it would be faster and theres the fact that they are getting pretty rare now, but there are the practicality issues that would go with buying a 16yr old car!
i dont know what to do

Make sure it hasn't had paint, and check for rust in the battery tray.
Check for oil smoke as valve stem oil seals wear (but are easy to change), and turbos and rings can wear on cars that have had a hard life, particularly if they use sh*t oil and have had the boost raised.
Check all the usuall things you would on any car.
They are reliable if they've not been abused or poorly modded or both
You'll need to drive it to see if the box is worn - even standard power can ruin the box and make it whine Standard rebuild with new bearings etc. (not fitted) is about 300 quid.
The more power you run the quicker you will wear the box out.
I fitted a newly built unit in mine with a diesel casing (bigger bearings) and all new parts a little over 3000 miles ago, and she has just about finished destroying it now - I am now saving for a straight cut Quaife built unit.
Standard cars are sort of slow (only about 132 bhp) and don't realy rev high enough to feel realy satisfying so don't get your hopes up too much - Cosworths they 'aint, but they can be pleasant all the same if well looked after.
If you do buy it you will probably get power mad before long and do just about anything to make it go faster.
Power Engineering tuned cars may have had a lot of money spent on them and have usually been well modified.
There are a lot of RS Turbo tuning companies out there, but they're not all good and some are very bad, so if it has been modded after all, find out by who and check back.
Hope it's a good one.
Good luck

Don't be silly Fad - it'd scratch the roof.
You're far better parking it next to it.

Hmmm - why was I not informed of this event?
PF were probably too scared and wanted to keep it a secret from the dark side.
I can see it now - a sea of bright colours, chrome RS Turbo badges and huge stereo installs - Yuk.

I've been thinking this too mate!
Don't know what it is about them but my first car was an Escort 1.3 and even though it was slow it was a nice drive.
There's a nice grey one near me but it's a 89 version and i'm after a 90 spec which included a few more bits as standard.
