Would a mk4, mk3 golf engine fit inside of a mk2 golf shell?

would you think it is a straight swop or is there some need for conversion items

My boyfriend is into golfs and he said that a mk4 and mk3 conversion can be put into a mk2 shell. The mk3 is the easier of the two a 2.0 8v will go straight in as he has that in his golf. The 2.0 16v will go straight in aswell although not sure if there are any wiring issues. The mk4 1.8t 20v are put in mk2 alot it is very popular but there is alot of work involved, u need alot of bits off the donor vehicle

the one you gonna need is the early AGU engine, this isnt the fly by wire system which the later 1.8t have, and is much much easier to put it

from memory you need something like a G60 gearbox mount and flywheel if your using the orginal Box as well

and alot of peple use a merc sprinter intercooler as well, as than stadard mk4 golf item wont fit

also i reckon your need the reader coil and possibly the dash cluster as some are coded to the ECU

best bet is to get hold of a copy of PVW with the fittign guide in
