Whatever you use i belive you will need swap magic to make it work. Not 100% on that though

Never had a problem with -R, but mines chipped and not using the crap SM shite.

-R used to work in more players than +R, not sure about now but I assume it still works in they players and new players play everything.
So -R is better.
