I don't expect most members to know the correct definition of obese, but if the thread would have been named "1 in 4 people in UK are FAT" I would be thinking the same as what most of you are thinking now.

well according to the BMI im overweight, but its because im a bodybuilder i have hardly any fat on me. the BMI doesnt account for lots of lean tissue mass. Cant have my bodyfat % down properly because they cant pinch anything on the calipers lol. Have to sit in some hydrotub thing to have it done properly.

Yes Seth, obese does not mean fat, it just means over the expected weight, Arnold Schwarzenegger was obese at his peek, merely because he was 19st, pure muscle none the less.

half the body mass tests are a joke and a waste of space. You need some serious equipment to get a proper body fat reading.

as said the height/weight ration bmi is about as accurate as a pissed up blind man due to no consideration of muscle mass.

When the word "obese" is used, most people immediately think of fat though, but of course I know what you guys are saying.. however, Judging by that statistic, I don't think 1 in 4 people are full of muscle..

i know what you lot are getting at but i would hazzard a guess at the sample that was used to make that statistic was just of fat people, i cant see them trying to generilize a obesity study using heavily muscled people.

although there will have been a lot of people in the study probally, and it would have been an opertunity sample, i would presume that the majority of the people in the study were the pre-defined definition of fat you know.. just basically well fat.

so yeah obviously if you are well muscled you are technically obese as BMI if not designed for showing that, but for the purpose of this statistic i would assmume they just meen porkers.
