I raised the 'post editing' point with a top London photographer who informed me that 99.9% of all magazine photography nowadays, especially fashion photography is touched up via editing software.

i could beleive it,,iv seen pics of abi titmus looking gorgeous then on tv a bit plump lol various other models that have had airbrushing done 2 that kirstys said about while reading girlie magazines,,

thing is i wanted my cars to look real and come across the way they are and thats 1 of the main reasons i picked ade,,the pics are for me so why pretend that they are something they are not?? if theres a scratch then so be it,,an alloy has kerbage-big deal,, if the colour of the paint is a bit faded i want it to show it,,,all the pics nowadays are edited that much whos to say thats how a car really looks?

i want to keep the porka and get her up to pristine standards and id like 1 day to look back on the old pics and see a diffrence

Like you say, editing can be for big things such as background distractions down to dust on the image without editing the actual subject.

they didnt edit pics in this way years ago ,,they done them the hard way and still managed cracking pics!!

i feel that if the original photo was taken good enough then it shouldnt need edited at all!

i agree for some people that editing does make a better pic,,its just not what i want

sadly with digital they need to edit to get the colour and contrast. even when you develop you can control the outcome of the image.

Contrast is a funny one because of course the eye has a very large dynamic range, the camera does not. Adding contrast later can remove what the camera/film was unable to capture. Too much of course and you have distorted what the eye saw, which is wrong.

Excessive motion blur though, thats just bad planning.

I dont' see the bad bita bout not being able to play about with the image.
If it looks better touched up it makes a better picture no?
If you take a bad picture with film and can't touch it up it's not any better because you used film.

I can't make a good picture from a bad one. if its out of focus of the DOF not small/big enough there is nothing you can do.

Thats just about the point I was making.
Whether you use film or digital a bad picture will still be bad.
But imo its more of an advantage being able to easily touch up the digital as opposed to saying 'oh but I used film' so mine is better anyway.

No I'm just trying to say that you justifying the rubbish pics because he didn't use digital wasn't a good excuse.

i never said that at all lol as well as not puting your point across very well you have also misread mine well done

now go back and reread this whole thread sloooooowwwwllleeeeee

the pics that he had published in the mags were the mag choice,,if they thought they were crap would they have paid the guy to use his pics?? no

would he be able to make a full time living out of his photos if his pics were crap?? i very much doubt it

my point about editing was the photoshoping that so plainly goes on nowadays is not what i wanted,,he has to make sure that his pics are good to begin with as he has less chances to rectifiy them once they are taken, also not using digital means that if he takes hundreds of pics then its a lot of film for maybe only a handful of pics so its money wasted so id like to think that he would take his time planing and taking the photo

where did i say they were rubbish pics?? i have put up a small selection of pics that are of cars that i know he has taken that mags have used so if they pay him for his time then thats good enough for me,,some1 saying they are a better photographer and his pics are shoot means fuck all to me actions speak louder than words

does that help you?

But, as I said at the start, I am no professional photographer and don't really know an awful lot about it so it's all imo.
