i am after an external hard drive for my laptop, but what would you recomend? 
 
I dont want to spend the earth!! I am looking at a few hundred Gbs but have no size in mind. I have a nice new laptop so im pretty sure it has usb 2.0 and might even have firewire, not 100% sure though

If you want to take it around with you i'd opt for a 2.5" disk.  and it depends upon hte way the disk is wired up etc and teh USB supplying enough power but in my experience no the smaller stuff doesn't require external power.

No I wouldnt be taking it around with me it would be left on the desk, just need more storage for DVDs and music etc. 
 
I just wondered if it would need to be plugged in. 
 
The link i posted seems to be hit or miss if you get the decent HD or not thats the only downside   
 
But what do people think of the one that I posted?
