Just had a letter from the dvla saying that they have set an inspection for my car on the 19/12/05 to have the registration transfered. WTF is that about, im only putting it on retention!!!

Is this normal

Its just too check that the car exists and that it is roadworthy,

to transfer a private plate from one car to another the car needs to be roadworthy, most cases they just ask to see the MOT but sometimes they book an inspection, its nothing to worry about

Ah thats alright then, yeh they have the MOT and everything at the mo thats why i wondered. Best dig out my legally spaced plates then

Yeah they do it occasionally. As above its to check the vehicle is roadworthy.

I think the thing behind it is something to do with people buying really old wrecked cars that have very exclusive number plates on them but the cars aren't road legal. Cant remember the whole thing behind it but its something to do with that...

Think its prob cos the car was SORN for well over a year before i got it MOT'd and taxed. As the car is a 1999 on an s so cant be because of the age

I had them check mine when I transfered my reg no.

I think they checked mine as the car had only

My mate had to do this. Random transfers are picked to check the validity of the documentation supplied, they'll just check chassis numbers.

Its to stop people applying to take valuable reg numbers off old scrappers which don't really exist any more. You need an MOT but thats just paper.
