Im going to take mine off and give it a good clean and fit a blanking plate in the process ive read every post when i did a search for it and im a bit confused... some say you just screw in a piece of metal over where the egr valve went and leave the egr valve loose, others say you just take it out and clean it, others say you cut something out a coke can sandwhich it between the inlet and the EGR valve,... which is correct ?

found this pic which out of the three is the one i need to make up

Thats the plates I made up they all need to be used so that the valve can still function normally.

So take the valve off clean it and put it back with the plates in front of the valve

Yes Mark it seems so its been explained to me in a bit more detail but basically you have to use all three in the way Broster has explained so the valve can still move slightly.
