i know you can do it, but i dont fancy payint 250+ for the software.

but it lists a couple of things you get with it like

256MB MMC-Mobile RSMMC (Dual Voltage RS-MMC) - NEW

Navigation software preinstalled on MultiMediaCardGeographic map (10x): Scandinavia, Britain, Benelux, Germany, France, Alp countries, Iberian Peninsula, Italy, Athens, Major Roads of Europe (CD-ROM)
USB MMC card reader & writer
Bluetooth GPS receiver (NMEA 0183 v2.2)
In-car charger cable for GPS receiver
ROUTE 66 lanyard
Universal car mount for smartphone

User Manual (CD-ROM)
Smartphone NOT included in this packing

do you actually need all that stuff (bar software) to use it?

The mount is just for hand-free use, the charger is just to stop it running out of battery power. You might not need the card reader, but it's the easiest way. The rest of it you'll need. The software would be obtainable through the special shop, mind.

get a decent size memory card, and bluetooth gps unit from ebay, the software which is a good chunk of that charge you can obtain for free, or very similar software anyway. Was going to get card and gps from ebay a while ago as i have a 3230 but never got round to it
