rights at the moment im paying around 900 on a 106 gti on admiral at 20 in my dads name. Looking into starting my own insurance when im 21 also, but does anyone know any insurers which give quotes when under a parents name, atm elephant and admiral are ok. Thanks in advance John

if its the first time ur getting insurance in ur own name it will still be a fair price try more-than i think they still give a years ncb for free when u start up with them so at the end of the year u have two years

you should buy a crap car, insure it for a couple of years to build up your no claims

I dont want a crap car, my dad dosen't need/own a car - so i may as well make use of his ncb. I will check out more than, so far CIS are the best

I don't mean drive it/use it etc. just have it to build up no claims. driving in your dads name is illegal as he is ment to be the main driver.

Yeah your right, but I hardly use the car. Once a week to uni, couple of times to gfs, I like a nice car

yeah mate was gonna say cis im with them and they are amazingly cheap, im 20 atm so may think about going for my own car insurance next year.
already been checking on some quotestwo and they much different to what im paying on me dads whitch is good

Yea, but then you end up in the situation I'm in. H ave no NCB so I cannot insure my 2.0 when others the same age as me can as they have a years NCB. If your happy driving in a 106 forever then go for it.

aye cis are greta i'm 20 my own insurance with dad a named driver (still my policy) with a few accidents and its 900 fully comp on my corsa with all mods declared

I've gone with Bell direct as I had 0 ncb, and am paying £540 fully comp with all mods declared in a not so great postcode.
21 yr old btw.

Youve just got to bite the bullet I reckon and get your own insurance!
Worth trying tesco, they insure me on the P1 for well under a grand!

Ed - Once I finish uni and i get a proper job i will definately start my own insurance, dont want high insurance while im a student tbh. Nath, cis are the best so far, pretty good.

im 21 next year so i use elephant to get quotes for then, they insure u on anything and i mean anything , but im sure ul find some cheaper elsewer

If you hardly use the car then it makes sense to buy something small engined to get your insurance down. No point having something thats costing alot of money on insurance if you hardly ever use it
