right my insurance premium on the corsa runs out on the 10th december btu im picking up the astra on 1st dec. rang elephant on thurs to get quote for my insurance for next year and to tell them about change of car and see if theres any charge for last 10 days. got premium of £931 for the next 12 months and that there would be no charge for the last 10 days change.
documents arrive this morning, premium still £931 but thats now only 10 months not 12 and said theyre adding on an extra charge of £349 for these 10 days of current policy.
so rang them up just before, asked about this extra charge, and what theyve said is that the astra is insured until the 10th for free and if i dnt take up another policy with them then i pay nothing, however if i take next years policy with them startin on the 10th then i have to pay £349 in back insurance to cover that 10 days of the change. right WTF?? so if i continue to use tehem i get charged practically £350, but if i go else where i get effectivly free insurance fo r10 days?? wheres the incentive to stay with them??
woman on phone was fkin useless, couldnt explain why iv now got 10 month instead of the 12, and why theyve added this extra charge when i got told there would be no further payments.
do i have a leg to stand on? apparently theyre goina ring me back tomorrow but i need insurance certificate sorted ot take ot garage so i can get car registered in my name
happened to anyone else? wtf is goin on??

was thinkin that, just theyve given me cheapest 'quote' for next policy. woried incase they just go and take the £350 out anyway even if i cancel policy etc!
surely if they record all phonecalls, then isnt a verbal agreement legally binding?

i wouldnt bother. surely the 350 charge will bump it up a bit? and the quote must have been for a 10 month ncb accelerator scheme so thats why it was cheaper before the charge

woman on phone said it was for the full 12 months and i expressed the fact that id my last policy was a 10 month one and this time i wanted full year. can they get away with sticking the £350 on when they said on the phone there would be no extra charge??

strictly speaking, a verbal contract is as good as one in writing. I wouldnt be suprised if they also recorded that convo you had with them the other day for "training purposes" therefore, demand that you speak to manager, make them listen to that recording and hold them to it. kinda sums up wht we were saying bout insurance the other night ay?!

if you requested to listen to the recording then I bet you they wont beable to find it or that phone call was one of the ones that wasnt recorded!

To be honest they can charge you whatever they want, its upto you to agree and pay or not and go else where.

I agree its bad business by them, but dont see any way round it other than maybe speaking to a manager and seeing what they offer.

i reckon u shud deffo try to push for a recording and if not deffo talk to manager, explain situation etc. As I said, a verbal contract should be treated same as written one so I cant c they can try to get out of that 1 2 much. Plus its not as if prices have risen etc coz it was only like 2 days ago u got the quote!
