I have been invited to a Gala event in London for my outstanding achievements at work but the dress code is black tie 
Any ideas what to wear to such event?
I have never dressed posh in my life

black tie means for men dinner jacket etc
so id go for a nice dress, not ball gowny etc
imagine its a cocktail party for a funeral LOL

Black Tie means formal. Men wear tuxedos, women wear cocktail, long dresses or dressy evening separates.

great shop in the metro centre which hires out ball gowns, got HUGE selection and some REALLY nice stuff in, i knwo this isnt convenient but they may have other branches or a website? shop is called Paris
