do people pay upwards of £100 for a set of coloured hoses such as samco just because they want a nice colour coded engine bay?? please discuss as i've enquired about a cheaper alternative, pending samples.

Silicone hoses are better quality than normal rubber ones, regardless of colour?

i owuld only have silicon hoses if they were black, as the are generally stronger and last better than rubber hoses

reason is that some people like myself have perfectly good standard hoses so its purely a cosmetic thing. i've recently discovered a company my dads firm has a trade account with can skin hoses in any colour silicone. just negotiating prices but indications are that it will be substantially cheaper than remade hoses.

silicone is not oil resistant so not really suited to being in an engine bay

well its made by a motorsport company for a hydraulics firm so if its good enough for jcb's etc then why not engine bays. and yes, silicone is oil resistant.

most samco kits are coolent. you also get boost hoses too but you do get oil in the inlet system of cars.

okay then. so if the hoses i intend to have made are standard equipment, with a coating in any colour, also poss different finishes when i get a sample back, then they will actually be better than the samco ones because they are decorative but funcional to the same standard of original ones?

The only reason they sell them is they look nicer than standard. They are in no way better than standard hoses, and in fact standard hoses will probably last longer than silicone ones. There is a lot of hype about them, but no real benefits.

hmm: tape looks shite

also: oil breaking them down- yes probs does but ive never heard of it happening to anyone, and think the car will rust away before this happens

finally: they look soooooo much better

personally I find I can't see them when I'm driving due to the bonnet being shut. plus add to the fact that my car is black the OE hoses go quite well

It aint a colour thing its a performance thing.

similar reason for mine to be silicone. most of them are joiners for th intercooler pipes and the mainf pipe from afm to turbo was weak and can suck shit, whereas the silicone one is a lot strong and cant be squashed. dont want the air feed sucking shut under boost.

the water ones ive got were about 3 quid off ebay, lol. so yes it is slightly cosmetica as in the colours match
