My girlfriend had her wing mirror smashed off by a black cab yesterday and he drove off. He was totally in the wrong, was in the wrong lane at the traffic lights and tried to force himself over into the lane my gf was in and smashed the mirror off.

My girlfriend managed to get his number plate, and saw a coppr just up the road so spoke to him who traced the car and took her details to pass onto the taxifirm.

Anyway, this morning the driver rings her up saying it was all her fault (unsure how as she was in the right lane!) and that his passengers are going to claim for injury and shock.

He is obviously trying to scare her into not claiming off him for the damage and its working. But Im gonna ring him in a bit and have a word, she how much of a big man he is when I turn it on him and say were going to get the police to follow up with fleeing the scene of an accident, etc.

Any advice....

Leaving the scene of an accident isnt a crime.

He can claim that he was driving to a police station to report it or that he deemed it dangerous to stop where it was.

He is only doing it as probably doesnt have a licence to drive a taxi, one person in the family just gets one and then they take it in turns to drive it most of the day.

lets put it this way. if you crashed into some one or knocked their wing mirror off and they got out of their car and they were massive and looked as if they were raging and wanted to kick the crap out of you. Would you just stand there? No you would go to a police station or a safe place.

but thats the point if he didn't report it then he doesn't have anything to back his claim up. I doubt the police would believe 'I was scared of the angry girl' stroy either

Yeah in that situation, but she is 5ft 5" and a size 8. So isnt massive and able to kick the crap out of anyone! Plus he knew this as was sat at the traffic lights right next to her for a couple of mins!

Thats my point...if he is saying it was her fault then why didnt he stop and get details? It was only because she got the number plate that he knows who it is. Plus if people were injured like he said then surely he must of had to stop!!

If you are like many people, you may not have been aware that leaving the scene of an accident is a criminal offense. Unfortunately a guilty finding on charges of leaving the scene of an accident, leaving the scene of property damage, or "hit & run" can carry with it potentially serious penalties.

It is illegal to leave the scene of an accident, if he didn't go to a police station to report it he's buggered anyway.

Fuck the cunt!

Nope 24 hrs

''If you do not exchange those details at the scene, you must report the accident at a police station or to a police constable as soon as you can and in any case within 24 hours. ''

I know this isnt the point but she may as well just pay for her own new wing mirror, its way less hassle and that way she wont have a claim on her insurance.

I know that, and thats what she is saying. I would of agreed with it aswell, but I dont see why we should let the fuker get away with basically trying to bully her into accepting the blame when he was totally in the wrong.

You know women arent all delicate little flowers that if someone says boo too loudly their petals fall off.

Im sure your girlfriend is strong enough to say that no it isnt her fault. She may just possibly not want to make a big deal about it when she could resolve it simply by just buying a new mirror.

Also what will giving the taxi driver a load of abuse down the phone achieve? And was he of ethnic origin?
