as above, im hopefully starting an 18 month aprenticeship in September with Cogent, mainly because university degree's especially mine are a waste of time So I finish my uni course in june with an ordinary degree then start this

The pay is very very good but I was wondering what it's like to work on Oil rigs? I would be doing 2 weeks on 12 hrs a day then 2 weeks off any help much appreciated

So wish I had left school and done this instead of this uni pish The cogent dude said thats it not unusual to be earning 30k a year by the time I would be 23

gf's dad does this,works in the north sea,loves it very hard work though but the moneys good and you get the bonus of not being able to spend it for 2 weeks

Economics and Business, pretty much the same as every other fucker out there

This apprenticeship will be like my honours year plus I get paid and actually learn something usefull

I've got a couple of mates who work offshore. One of them is a chemist earning £50K+ and the otherjust a roughneck earning around £30K. Both say it's not for everyone, long hours and extremely hard graft. Also depend what Rig you're on some have proper state of the art Gyms and Cinemas etc. however some are like filthy bedsits.

well put it this way, I could stay on, do an honours year and hate every minute of it then leave and slog away in some shite office job 9 to 5 for 16k a year or I could do this, earn lots and potentially earn even more.

The only way my degree will come in handy is if one day I have family, dont want to be away for 1/2 the year and try and get a job in the oil industry here say working for BP Grangemouth for example!

The lad who's a roughneck has being doing it staight from school his whole family work offshore. The lad that is the chemist studied Analytical Chemistry and worked for Merck Sharp & Dohme for a few years before the lure of silly money took him offshore

there is probably an element of truth in this but at least there kicking me out with a shoot degree

Russ the course starts in september 2006, applications start in January, I'm not sure about the colleges for english students though

my dad works on an oil rig for the BP

tis a proper nice rig hes on like!

hard work when your working 12hours a day and the safety trainin is a bit scary.

but my dads been on the rigs for 20years an he doesnt complain! quite a good place to wokr

You have to complete the Offshore survival course also which involves being strapped into a helicopter simulator and then crashing into a pool...flipped upside down and having to swim yourself out...

Easy peasy
