Basically I will be going into third year next year

I have the choice to either

a) 6 months to get my degree - then one years work placement - then 6 months for my honors

OR

b) 6 months degree - 6 months honors

always worth doing the experience, as you'll be preferred to just someone with a degree when you come to find a job.

Plus my girlfriend is doing her year in industry this year and earning 15k for doing fairly simple work. Its paying off most of her student debt and still have plenty left over!

Experience without a doubt. It gets your name into the system and now that uni is a more realistic prospect for alot of people, there is far more competition so experience is always a bonus. Will also give u an idea of slight specialisations u might like to follow within your subject...

i'm doing a sandwich course. It just gives me an oppurtunity to earn some money and get some experience with different types of mechanical engineering, cos i don't know what area i want to go into yet.

I suppose this way suits me, i mean a placement might not suit everybody !!!

I didnt do it, but it has its pro's and con's. If you do it itll be easier to get a decent first job when you graduate, however the time you spend doing it you could have graduated and got some experience anyhow.

Some people find it hard doing a years work then getting back into education mode.

I did a placement last year, and I'mhoping to go back working with them now... consider it as a long interview if you get something worthwhile

experience is always a winner.

my new job was wittled down to me and two others.

They had degree's and MCSE's etc etc i didnt.

They went with me becuase i had 5 years experience and could acctually talk to people rather than trying to hide behind a degree.
