mate you're 17, you're not gonna get cheap insurance on your own lol.

Its as simple as that really. TPFT should bring it down to 13-1400 though. Most folk want you to be 19, my insurance is about that on a GSi with all mods declared and not much more for hte coupe tubby lol.

theres a 2000 model and then they stopped making them i think.

Your best bet is to get insured as a Named driver for the first year until your 18, so that you can save up the money and also insurance is slightly cheaper.

Try directline, they arent that bad in comparission, i found they were ok to me for when i was 18, then when i was 19 i went to HIC. I still pay £720 a year with 1 yrs no claims.

when i was 17 i just went straigh on my dads policy on my 1.2 corsa B , was only about 300 odd a year fully comp well just under £300. im sure a lot of people will say its not worth it bla bla bla but it really was now im only paying £540 odd on my swift gti still on my dads at 20, but can get it on my own from admiral ect for bout £680 i think i was quoted so in the long run going on my dads saved me a hell of a lot.

I think a Polo 1.0 insurance will be even worse - Im pretty sure they are a higher ins group to begin with. Im with direct line for £1100 TPFT - I got bout 25 other quottes before that and they wer nearer what you are being quoted atm.
