Hiya,
Just done a quick search but was not able to find anything.
My brother has just passed his test and seems to want a CorsaB (he don't seem interested when I tried to get him to buy an Almera lol - oh well!!)
Im a nissan man myself (drive a primera 2.0SRi) so I dont really have an idea where to start with Vauxhall motors.
I have been told for a new driver, the 1.2 8v engine is the better out of the bunch for him (cheap on insurance, not to powerful...) but i was wondering when going out looking at motors what are the common problems that creap up on them - IE common rust areas, specific engine troubles, any tests that i can do to see if the car has a problem.
I would be greatfull for some hints and tips
Thanks
Steve

Bottom of the spoiler if it has one, around the wiper arm, rear arches, bonnet return lip and here -

Engine troubles - 1.2 8v are all fairly old now. 1.0 12v is also an option but really its worth looking at later 1.2 16v for the difference in money.

best for young drivers is the 1.2 16v engine, especially in the SXi model. 1.2 8v is very gutless and can be quite thirsty since it has to use 100% throttle ALL the time
