Great vid and the Escort is very fast, especially for a 15-20 year old 1.6! In the real world it doesnt have a chance against the Evo tho, it pulls away effortlessly when braking, cornering or power application comes into the equation.

You can do what you want to the engine but no amount of money can make up or a 15 year old FWD chassis that wasnt brilliant even then! The car is sweet tho and clearly very fast. I would feel like a bit of a tit waving tho with that outcome, can barely see the evo when they get back on the main straight!!!

He should drive it harder! The last left hander he slows down and takes it in 3rd with a soft line. Mine flew round there flat out in 5th using all the road LOL

Nope. I dont think how well driven it was would make a bit of difference, the Evo is always gonna destroy it round the bends!

its pretty blatant that a car built for rallying is going to absolutely twat an old FWD ford out on track...

but the driver of each car plays a big part too...

also the ford doesnt power up untill 3rd gear properly
evo has power right throu rev range
so there is no chance the ford would have kept up even if he try'd

I wish we had filmed some of the proper laps we had round there....

Go and find some vids from track days Martin Hadland has had his Metro on track, and see what that does. Its easily a match for lowly tuned cossies. Then I'll tell you how much my car beat that round by LOL

Yes the Evo will make a little bit of time up in the bends, but not as much as people think. Then the straights its a gonner, as the RST is rolling and won't have any traction problems.

You lot need to actually go on a track day and see what really happens, rather than just listening to people, or presuming things!

The bends are too sweeping and quick for 4wd to be an advantage on brunters. There is only the bend ofter the mega long straight which it tightens up a lot.

Ive been doing track days for the last 5 years and used all my cars (Corsa 2.1 - 210bhp, M3 Evo, 200sx - 350bhp+ and my P1) Front wheel drive shopping cars cant compete no matter how big their engine is!!! Dont get me wrong tho, if you get a complete novice who's never done a track day before in his brand new STI/Evo then yeah you probably will pass em, thats a confidence thing tho!

The Evo doesnt just start to pull away from the RST it fookin anihilates it to the point where you cant even see it when it gets back on the main straight. Brunters isnt really a good place to show the allround abilities either as its more of a top speed sort of place. On a tighter track Id be confident of lapping that RST! A Corsa is a poorer handler/braker than the RST too!!

But were talking about Brunters here...

One straight is 2 miles long. Another is around a mile. The distance my car (or any with equal power to weight) would pull would be so uncatchable its not true.

Going on my experience from going round there, the dude in the RST is not trying particularly hard. Like the last left hander, that can easily be taken at 120, and the road your going onto is 60m wide. Plenty of room to carry your speed.

Tighter tracks yes. 4wd has its advantages. But even on Donno, I'd be confident of knowing a FWD N/A car you wouldn't catch

Going to RSOC national day is a real eye opener for people that think 4wd is the be all and end all of the world. Seeing some old Mk2 on carbs keeping with them lap after lap

Theres exceptions to every rule tho isnt there? There will be a front wheel drive somewhere that is totally sorted, had thousands spent etc.... that will be a flier. But that cannot be compared to another standard car........compare that to a well sorted RWD or 4WD.......Simon Norris' Evo, Clive Seddons Evo etc etc

A FWD hatchback is not the best base for a high performance car!

Go and drive an Evo for a few days and then rethink your post. An Evo will chop seconds off a fwd car around corners.
