We started on Friday Evening at 9PM. On a mate's 1.0 Nova, A group of 5 of us did it, none of us are proper mechanics - One has started an apprenticeship, One had a 60's beetle ridden with problems , and one is a JCB Apprentice. He had a '92 SR that was rear ended so we decided to change the engine and box over this weekend using a mate's garage.
Bought all new stuff, which is Ace. And new Discs and Pads. The engine runs really well, only problem a Manifold Gasket which is missing and is noisy, and it needed a bottle of RadWeld. Also had to hire a crane (£23 For a Weekend).
The Conversion itself went really well. Removed Bonnet, Front Bumper Lights etc. Got the 1.0 ready to be lifted out in a few hours, following the Haynes Book. Then we got started on Changing the Fuel Tank! That was fun. We ended up flipping the donor car onto it's side to get the parts we needed (You can imagine the looks from passers by!), Then we lined up the Exhaust system because the 1.0 Exhaust is on the back of the block, the 1.4 on the Front.
After we got this lot ready and the 1.4 in we had to deal with Wiring , Looked a bit daunting, but once we got our heads round it, it wasn't anywhere near so bad. Just used the bits out of the Donor Loom. Then we connected it all up. And Made sure all the plugs were in!
Then came the fun part - The cooling System! Had to go down to the scrappy in the Pissing Rain and stand on the ladder to a Nova in the Air . Wiggling the pipes off was no fun with the car wobbling with me . Never been so Cold, Wet and Miserable in my Life, But we got the parts we needed!
The Mishaps:
Had a Couple Like you get everytime you do something. Couple of things were schoolboy things that were laughable!
1. Put in 1.5 Litres of Gearbox Oil with the Driveshafts out! Straight onto the garage floor .
2. Missed a Cooling Hose on the Carb, one that goes into the Choke Casing, and stops the carb icing I presume.
3. Various wiring bits needed sorting and extending. Was annoying, the last 5 or So seemed to be the "last one"
4. The exhaust was bent and rested on the rear spring (A result of the shunt). Bothered. Bent it back
5. Had a problem with the Earth and the Ignition Coil, We forgot about it for some reason it started up 3 or 4 times. Then Just didn't work and gave a permanent live to the Window Wipers and Indicators Soon sorted that .
Despite the problems it was a FUCKING good weekend! And the fact we had it finished and all put back together by Sunday at 6PM was really good in my eyes! I was amazed the engine started so easily. Once the fuel was going into the carb we turned it over, It turned twice and then came into life! Awesome!
Just a bit gutted it's over now
Will Upload some pics in a bit

Its good when you do things like that, as you feel it as an acheivement!
When we had the caterhams at the nurgurgring, one dropped 2nd gear, so by meself i changed the box in 1.5 hours and the car came 2nd in the next race, so i felt happy
