There are loads of sites offering this service, like Microsoft B Central e.t.c... But are they actually legit? Or are they just a rip off?

Need to get a website publicised better by getting it up in the search engine ranks see...

Are there any other ways to get better search results?

doesnt really do much nowadays. Search engines spider websites based on popularity - they're not fooled by keywords.

Make sure your site is first well optimised (all images have ALT tags, all pages titled, avoid flash as much as possible etc etc etc).

Then try to get links to it from other popular sites.

It WILL take ages to get a good place in the natural listings of any search engine. If you're patient and you're site is unique (not much competition from the bigger players) then it will get there eventually.

The only way to get to the top of the listing quickly is with PPC advertising like Google do. www.overture.com is a good place to start for this but dont expect any PPC to be cheap.

exactly waht chump said , meta tags aint all that now , its links to your site that move you up , but the easy way is pay but look at 300+ for google Uk.
