i personally think that sometime ago, desmond was being tested on by a company that modified him and played with his DNA and something went wrong.
they built this shelter and and decided to put him in there to cover up any traces of what happened. but before he was locked the guy said to him "Ill be back for you". many years later no one came. the others in my view are people from the company who have been infected like the guy and basically thrown on the island.
remember the shark that went for sawyer?
it had the logo of the company on its tail

i think to prevent any of the people swimming out they put these sharks in the sea.
IMV i reckon while michael, sawyer and jin are captured, locke, jack and desmond along with kate decide to work together and find the others, a war between two tribes

Where is the logo?
You can't see it's tail when the whole shark is in view.

IMO Walt is a mild version of Damien, doesnt know it himself but others can sense it.
polar bears will come back into it and there will be some kind of logo on the bears paw just like the sharks base tail.
i havnt desived a theory on how Locke can walk yet but IMO the island is in somekind of Burmeuda Triangle.
