Yesterday my car was playing up. The engine management light came on and the engine was reving by itself.

I took it down to my local vauxhall dealer and explained the problem, they said it was most likely the EGR valve. They suggested this without even looking at the car.

How much do you reckon it will cost to replace the valve? I just left the car at the garage and said replace at what ever cost as it has to be done.

231 (or near enough) they quoted me for the parts without labour

i laughed at him, walked away and cleaned it myself for a fiver and an hour or two's hard work.

solved the problem and runs sweet as a whistle

sorry 231 exc. VAT so.... £271.425 but obviously labour can vary and other problems .etc

go on ebay.they are around £40 and go else where to get it fitted.you will find u may have to replace idle control valve too

the solutions u posted r fine and dandy but i think he's already half way up shit creak without a paddle unless u can call them and cancel it now

I just rang the garage and apprently its the idle control valve thats causing the problem and its around £100 to replace, still its better than £270!

Always fails on Corsas Should have been a recal imo
