Do you have these in larger resolutions?

Would make good backgrounds for a PC.

Cybermonkey - Is it safe for large commercial planes to fly in such close proximity?

Was the reason purely for promotion shots?

Would there be special test pilots that completed this formation...or can a normal pilot perform such manouvers?

yeah its safe, Airbus' own test pilots would be in control of the aircraft, but any qualified pilot wth a flight plan could easily undertake a formation with another airliner, could be controlled purely from the FMC.
Yeah its a promo thing, but also tests would be carried out during flight, ie, wake tests, power out manouvres etc etc

Gaz,

not really, perhaps a little bumpy if the air is unstable, but looks like a perfect clear day so good conditions for a formation. besides, the A380 is still at least a hundred feet from any vortice created by the A340, which would be minimal anyway since the A340 uses the wingtip fences to reduce the vortice created
