My dad bought a ceiling fan for my front room. and i believe it to be an american make

rather than taking it apart does anyone know what colours the yanks use for their wiring?

also it is rated 120v would i have to use a transformer with it or would it be safe with the 240v us brits use?

Wouldn't just plug it in if its only 120 and not sure about the colours.

not sure on yank colours either but dont wire it up to 240 supply. it will go round pretty quick but wudnt last long. you might be able to do it with a transformer. nip down to your local electrical store...not BnQ. they will be able to tell u more.

If you plugged it straight into the 240v supply it would make an effective helecopter...
