now got pretty much everything switched off apart from stuff i vitally need, PC is miles quicker!! down to 22 services on idle

How do you know what you need running and what you don't? Just trial and error or are there generally certain things that run that you don't need?

They all have descriptions and some you'll know you don't use. Some stuff is required by other things though, I had some problems when I stopped a load because of the dependencies, just needed to restart a few though and see if that cured the prob.

It will tell you when you stop them that it will cause others to stop, just make a note of those.
