It's not fair, i want to be listening to tunes whilst i work instead i am stuck in an office full of boring barstewards who like utter silence.

This job is sooo not going to last very long for me if i can't change their minds.

cant you just wack some headphones in your 'puter and just play cds or something? i used to this when working in tech support, still had music playing when answering phones
