My mate has a Corsa B which is a 1.2 16v SXi. Thing is, its not exactly fast (well he thinks it is ), but is there any mods he can do to improve power?

Any chance of him being as quick as my car with his 1.2 +mods? (I've got 100+bhp/tonne )

destricted airbox with panel filter, custom built exhaust (from cat-back) thats about it that gave me a +10.3bhp on my corsa b sxi 1.2 16v (65bhp standard, 75.3bhp with mods) was able to keep up & lose 1.4 sports

Anything from Nitrous Oxide, Turbo, Throttle Bodies, etc.

My X12XE is standard except for a Black Frog Induction Kit. Why polish a turd?

10bhp from an exhausta and filter????

and even then it wouldnt get close to a 1.4 sport. ive owned both and they are both slow, but a the 1.2 16v is terrible compared to the 1.4 16v.

even with the imaginary 10bhp gain its still 15bhp and a lot of tourqe to make up before being close to a sport.

go figure

My car made 68bhp on the rollers with the induction kit. 66bhp standard. I dont think the exhaust is so restrictive that you would get such a big increase, especially if you brought it from the cat back. Before my MOT I was running a scaffolding pipe straight from the bottom of the manifold out the side of the bumper. Didnt notice any difference in power. I may build a 4-1 manifold to see how much power I can get out the 1.2 exhaust, even though the cat is super efficient.

you say super efficient, do you mean super efficient at turning harmful gases into bi-products, or efficient in passing exhaust gases through its innards in the least obstructive manner?

i was laughing at the lose 1.4 sports bit

I should have put 'super efficient'. Because its on the manifold it heats up quick and stays hot so technically it shouldnt be very restrictive at passing gasses and reducing CO, VOCS etc

if that were my car on the rollers i would dismiss that 2bhp gain. Did you get it RRed pre-induction kit?

Before i did the 2.0 conversion i had a 1.2 16v which had a full stainless exhaust, induction kit and was superchipped. I put it on rolling road and it was putting out 82bhp at 6100 and 90lbft of torque. It was a nippy little car but was crap over 70mph where it had given its best really.

Close coupled cats take less than a minute to heat up to normal operating temperature. Conventional ones take about 2 minutes. After half an hours driving the cat actually cools down.
