I can't believe what Renault charges

I started the 172 up at the weekend and the emmisions light was flashing.

I took it to Renault (big mistake) to be put on the diagnostics machine. Came up that either the igntion coil, spark plugs or ht leads were faulty. They also recommended a compression test just incase.

Now for the costs:

£30 for diagnostics
£50.50 for the compression test
£80 for spark plugs
£18 for leads (Can live with that)
£50 for the igntion coil (there maybe 4 of them )
Plus labour

I just rang them and the total cost so far is about £300 just to change the fecking spark plugs and leads
They aren't changing the coil as they think its ok.

Don't you just love cars I only do about 2000 miles a year as well

We'll see.

At the moment I have two cars, one thats in use (the black 1ltr beast) and the other is the red bucket 2ltr project which I need to pull my finger out of my ass and complete it

Once the black one is gone I'm considering just using the XE but unsure.

If I was to get a second 'run about' car it would make sence to go for something that isnt going to cost a bomb to maintain and run. Because lets face it, the XE isnt going to be a walk in the park..

Vauxhall in Branksome arent much better Mark. Remember that revving problem I had. That cost me £345 to get put right, and it still plays up from time to time. I even took it back and they couldnt find another fault at all....and charged me £120 for that Dad didnt have any of it and they said they wouldnt charge

I think all main dealers over price because, well, they can

Got it back, well chuffed its back. It seems quicker as well

Was pissed off about paying for it but as soon as I drove it I loved it, just pleased the beast is working again

Still can't believe £80 for plugs and it was £80 for leads

don't think you can change the spark plugs on your own, a mate of mine was told by the local dealer that they had to change them as it requires a special tool?

I think you can but I didn't know that they would cause my emissions light to come on. No special tool required just usual tools.
You need a special tool for the cambelt though. Also because the engine is so compact in the engine bay its quite difficult to do anything

Because my emmisions light came on and I didn't know what was wrong with it so I had to get it hooked up to the machine, and they said I shouldn't drive the car as it could damage it more
Also they didn't mention that it would cost £130 in labour to fit the plugs, a fecking monkey could fit them in 5 minutes.
I was happy to pay the price they were quoting for the leads & plugs (about £160 in total) didn't realise they were charging so much to fit them till after.

At the end of the day they have lost my future business I will just go elsewhere, i'm just happy the car is working
