have done a search on the ever good google and came up with this as the only good possible reason for missing start/taskbar..

however i do not want any half assed user to fuk it up, i will be talking them through how to do it.. but i wanna make sure 100% that this works first

Put your curser on the bottom of the screen untill your curser changes size, click and hold and drag up.

im on XP as are the rest of the IT dept and a few other depts.. but its the NHS mate.. budget all the way.. so they are still using 98..
laney - nah unfortunatly they havnt.. its only comming up when she presses ctrl and esc.. or the windows key.. but even then its on the right hand side of the screen and half way up the page too..

It disappears if Windows Explorer crashes.
Hit Ctrl, Alt, Del, then click Applications, then New Task, type in explorer.exe and hit enter, could work then.
