Sooo does anyone here own a tropical or marine fish tank ??

Im thinking of getting one although not sure yet, any pics or tips guys ?

Saw some lovely little craps and frog fish (looked like little humans really freaky) today although apparently they eat most other small fish

yeah weve had a tropical tank for a few years, if you look after them regularly with water changes every couple of weeks its cool and i can sometimes jsut sit and watch the tank for ages but neglect it and get lazy and it all goes tits up with algae and shit. But i think theyre great, never had marine but thats expensive and a bit more tricky

Ive got a tropical community tank

Crap? U mean crab? They would be a no no unless u wanted a tank full of crabs

Start off with a 2 foot tank, get it cycled then add some hardy fish

IMO a fishless cycle is better

I spend alot of time on www.fishforums.net take a look on there for some good advice

Expect a batch of fry every 6 - 8 weeks then

We rescued 9 of our first batch, but just let nature take its course now! 99% of them will get eaten, usually only 1 or 2 or ours survive

platies and mollys are for girls and pussies

you want real fish

Greg get a starter tank from pets at home, alot of nice tanks and good prices.
you'll need to set up the aqaurium for about 10days for a good amount of bacteria onto the filter pads.
basically this means that everytime you add fish into the tank they give off a small amount of amonia and nitrite, with good amounts of bacteria this will be filtered through in a matter of days.
with no or little it will take longer.
as long as you add a maximum of 5 fish weekley you'll be fine.
and have your water tested before you buy fish, just to be on the safe side and save any casulties.
your levels should be:

pH:6.8-7.8
amonia
nitrite
nitrate

if you have any questions about setting the tank up or varients of fish i.e which is hardiest and easiest to keep then give us a u2u.

We have got so many different types of fishies, i like the cat fishes, angel fish, red finned sharks and parrot fish, the ones with the boggley eyes make me laugh
We had a crab, but one day when my mum oped the tank to feed then he was right at the top waiting to get out
They went after that
