Any1 got any opinions on these golfs, possibly looking into getting for for around 2k.  any advice on what to look for and experiences on whether they are good cars etc... 
 
they ever been tested on top gear?

for a 2.0 that is slow. but u can make em look vey nice. like ICYs for example

overall good car if your not that bothered about performance, but there still fairly nippy. would try and stretch to a vr6

they are good solid cars look in my garage for pics  ov mine! mines the 2.0 8v good reliable cars 16v cost abit more to maintain as the 8v are alot easyer to work on!

look out for worn rear axel bushes as cost about 200-300 to fix rust around boot window and on door sills! a well maintained golf shud be pretty much rust free

vr6 drink petrol for fun and arent that much quiker than the 16v unless u plan on supercharging

i like it, fast enough for me for now coming from a 1.2 8v corsa.

check for rust spot under the door sidesill seal 
might be rust bubbles behind the plastic arch trims too

very reliable solid cars, will go on forever if they've been looked after. would imagine these are on par with 306 xsi, bmw 323, mk4 astra 2.0 sri

MK2 Astra GTE, might even find one with a LET for an extra £500-600

I would buy either a Golf or nice V6 or 2.0L 16v calibra with leather interior, heated seats etc... Or BMW 325..for some rwd fun?

golf gti is slower than a 106 gti 
 
megane coupe phase 1, 2l 16v F7R engine from clio williams, 0-60 7.6 
 
all the gadgets inside too
