whats the best thing to view them?

sometimes media player does it, but not always. ive got a converter but as its only the trial version it adds a line in the middle of the video, spoiling it all downloaded a full version of a divx/avi player, but even that wouldnt play the file! looked like a shit program though. any ideas!?

www.downloads.com try most of the ones on there

there was a really good one but for the life of me can't remember the name, got it from the above link mind

get codecs! do a search for nimo codec pack get the latest one and install it

installed every codec there is and file still wont play, and even when i put it into a converter (which ive now got working!) says i need yet more codecs.

bah! think ill have to forget it

Download this,

VLC Player

It'll play any file you throw at it inculding quicktime and any avi etc.

What is it you've downloaded? There must be something wrong with the file rather than the player. Not sure if there are tools available to scan avi files for errors etc?

try powerdvd to run it from the harddrive never kno!

It could be a knackered file but you could try this http://www.headbands.com/gspot/ It checks the avi for you and tells you whether you have the correct codec installed and where to get it if you haven't.
