I'd rather persuade him to cancel my credit-card bill before I persuade him to cancel the debt of someone I don't know, and am likely to never know, and hence don't care about...
They got themselves in debt, why should they not have to pay it back?

Okay, so the top part was a troll/joke, but the second part is my opinion......my free-will opinion, that I'm allowed to have in this country, would you rather we all thought the same and there was no such thing as freedom of speech?
And saying it's not about money is utter rubbish: part of my taxes goes towards aid towards these people, or do you think they magically pull millions of pounds from thin air? If so, can you tell me how to do it? I'd rather my taxes go wholly towards things that will benefit me; after all, that's what the system is *supposed* to be there for!

I never said that its about money - I said that its not about GIVING money on this occasion unlike other events. Awareness is the key.
So with this in mind it won't affect your hard earned money but if you can't spend a couple of minutes filling in your name and email address online to support a cause then its your choice.....

I don't think the issue is how they got themselves in debt, but rather how to get themselves out of it. I'm all for making poverty history but I'm more worried about the problems of this country and its people.
If its not about giving money and more about public acceptance of the governments contribution to these countries, tell me whose money the government will be spending?
Public acceptance that our money should be used. Not today, but whenever public opinion sways that far. Don't be mistaken, you only need to be aware so you don't mind when your money is spent for you.
