not really, most compilations is filled with commercial shite that has been hammered on the radio. I'd personally look for Winter Music Confrence (WMC) cd's or mixes from ibiza.

Hed Kandi, Shoot, you must be kidding, went to see them last year at El Divino and it was amazing, Stonebridge and Payton sang live.

Hed Kandi are the masters of Funky house, Beach House gotta be the best though!

Hed Kandi is superb, as is Defected etc.

Hed Kandi is more than likely the biggest around, every venue always sold out full of gorgeous lady's woo hoooo !

KZ - I'll sort you out with a little cd mate, might do a new one tonight actually before my holiday.

Also KZ if you haven't been to the funky house venues in Southend then you really need to go, every month we have Funk U, Miss Moneypenny's, Hed Kandi, Coco Cuba and more

Hed Kandi used to be ground breaking...now they are too mainstream...recent new from Hed Kandi....

********************************************************

Hed Kandi will be carrying on as 'normal'... a few weeks ago Mark Doyle resigned following a long period of disatisfaction with certain aspects of the brand and the direction it gradually took due to external factors beyond his control (ie Guardian and Jazz FM bringing more people in to manage Hed Kandi as it got bigger, and the brand having to change from its original direction to meet new targets etc). It's a natural course when any company grows and gets bought out - things change through restructuring and the original "family" becomes a thing of the past. No-one has noticed this more than our fans over the years and it's something that's been close to our hearts as time's moved on. There's nothing sudden about this, it was a long time coming.

Anyway. Mark's left and now he's in the process of setting up a new venture from scratch to encapture the original ethos that Hed Kandi stood for...good quality tunes aimed at people who know about their music - an older more discerning and appreciative audience. His aim is to leave behind all the mainstream connotations that have become synonymous with HK, and start a fresh. Go back to what it used to be. The alternative is packing out Luminar leisure clubs and possibly becoming something like Ministry in a few more years, who knows. Money isn't everything.

Hed Kandi as a brand is still owned by Jazz FM, that won't change. It's business as usual. Mark's new venture will be called something entirely different.

As DJs we are still employed by Hed Kandi until the end of the summer and our diaries are not affected by the current changes. I'm still playing at El Divino and have a heaving workload for when I get back in August. What we are being offered is a choice by Hed Kandi and Mark of whether we want to stay where we are or make a move to this new enterprise and see what the future brings. Hed Kandi isn't finishing or coming to a sticky end, quite the opposite in fact. It's doing better than it ever has. Mark's resigned and the rest of us are presently being offered a choice.

Hed Kandi's response....

official response.................

Hed Kandi announced this week that they've parted company with founder and brand visionary Mark Doyle replacing him with experienced A&R man Phil Faversham.

"Phil Faversham is set to become A&R Director at the UK's foremost quality dance compilation brand Hed Kandi," the label said a curt press release, "Faversham replaces Hed Kandi brand founder Mark Doyle, who leaves the label this month to pursue his own ventures."

During his five-year tenure, Mark Doyle built Hed Kandi into an astonishingly successful company, selling over five million compilation CDs and launching numerous Hed Kandi nights around the world. Chatting to Skrufff last year, the unusually humble and down-to-earth character insisted the key to Hed Kandi's success was actively avoiding the rock & roll lifestyle.

"It's company policy to fly economy class and stay in the cheapest hotel possible. Excess is what kills record companies, all that 'I want a limousine, I've got to fly business class and I've got to stay at the Delano' nonsense," said Mark.

"We're like 'We'll fly economy and stay in a fleapit but we'll still be able to release records in two year's time'," he explained.

"Longevity is gained from relationships you build with people, I believe in helping people who help you and looking after people in general," Mark told Skrufff in an earlier chat, "You find out who your friends are and help them."

*******************************************************

Hed Kandi release their 50th compilation CD in August. = This says it all!!! They have gone mainstream and have sold out...Hed Kandi nights used to be extravagant nights...with the club dressed for the evening...

These days they hang a few posters up and hike up the price of entry...and call it a Hed Kandi night...

It was sold out a while ago...

Shame

The only decent Hed Kandi nights are the special nights in Ibiza etc...

i was going to put that in my message as that is exactly what i was thinking. End of the day its probably making some coin so you can't blame them, but as said the "Hed Kandi" nights are a joke. there is one in every town just about.
