hi peeps.
Im a bit stuck with a problem i have at work here.
I have a brand new PC which has pucka software installed on it, nothing dodgy etc.
When the user goes to use any of the microsoft office range (2003) after a few seconds of using it, the egg timer will appear and not go, it starts to flickers and the only thing to do is ctrl+alt+del
i have obviously tried re-installing it several times, installing and not installing the office service packs makes no difference.
The PC is up to date with windows, all of the microsoft .net is up to date.
Im at the end of my tether, so i was wondering if anyone else might have any ideas?

The machine is a brand spanker, with 512mb DDR ram i think.

The way you said that you're kind of the network administrator gave me the impression it wasn't really within your job description so i was going to tell you not to worry about it.

Have a look in Task Manager see what else is running, get in Administrative Tools -> Services and stop and disable anything that you don't need.

wheres the windows event viewer?
THis is on Wink2k.
When the office program crashes i go to CTRL+ALT+DEL and task manager then hangs! :-s

The PC did have a 512mb stick or ram added as extra, i might try taking this out at some point.

nope.. nothing. no error messages.
Ive swapped ram out and nothing changes.

The program doesnt't completely hang looking more closesly.
The timer comes up, and stays on... i can click on something or type something and 30 seconds later it will quickly happen and then straigh onto the timer again.

And its only microsoft office. Sage etc is fine.

im pissed

Lots of things is could be, but as you've reinstalled I won't bother saying to do a Detect and Repair.

What is the current default save path? I know a few issues with default save paths on network filesystems can cause major problems if that device is no longer available? Is this a standalone machine or I assume it's in AD with a roaming profile/network home directory?
