more like 20,000 degrees C
Considering the suns surface temp is reputedly about 6000 degrees C.
It's a bit hot

A couple of years ago my neighbours house was hit! I was in the house on my own.
Fucking scared the shit out of me- there was a flash but instant BANG noise like 'Thwack!' noise. So loud shook the house.
The Pc went off, as did the tv etc (EMP effect?) - All the car alarms and fire alarms in all the houses started going off!
I spoke to my next door neighbour and she said she heard it and then thought she could see her bins glowing!
Fucking scary though

No thats the trip being thrown in your house's fuse box. Will do that in storms if the house is hit, as the current from the bolt will find the easiest route to earth, which is most probably an earthing point in the house. The current will throw the trip before it blows the fuses. as for the car alarms, that will probably be from the actual sound shuddering the car.
Happened when i was younger, was out in the street playing with my mates, and a bolt of lightning struck a field not far from where we were, left a huge scorch mark on the ground, and set off all the car alarms as the ground shook.

Fuck you were lucky not to be hit mate.
So - you think my house was hit? I have no idea I just assumed it was next door neighbour - though it was soooo loud, the whole house shook. etc

yeah normally, if a house is struck, the electrostatic discharge can affect the whole street/neighbourhood. tis powerful shit.
We had a truly massive electrical storm back in March over here, house got struck a few times, but when a giant gum tree got hit outside the front, it fryed the inside of the tree, it was about 100ft tall until it was removed.our house literally moved when it jumped, and there are visible stress cracks in the supporting walls in the house that appeared soon after. me and my family lost proper hearing for a good few hours, such to the sheer noise of the thunder clap. it absolutely stunk of ammonium too. we havent had a storm like that in a while, which is good, because a few houses nearby were destroyed by fire as a result of being hit.

My car alarm didn't like the rain, it kept cherping to warn the rain to stop touching it or it will set the alarm going. The rain took no notice though...

Was cool, my house is on the top of a hill, was driving towards it and the clouds were just flashing every 2 or 3 seconds right over head... Went out to shut the 8 foot high pointy iron gates too just to be extreme.
