what sort of budget do you have?
and what type of Port AGP? PCI-E?
Alot of people say their budget is £100, so i would suggest nvidia 6600gt, best buy for that kinda budget.
Failing that ATI x800 if you've got too much money
the nvidia card will play games like HL2 and doom3 quite nicely.

rofl!! Get one of nVIDIAs FX range, games like BF2 require these kind of specs and eventually most/all games will aswell.
My top buy is a nVIDIA 6600GT - I've got a Asus one which kicks ass, but the XFX ones are also good:

IMO, you should get one of the Nvidia 6 series cards. They are highly capable, and the lower end 6 series cards are pretty damn powerful. the 6600GT would be the weapon of choice, whether in AGP or if you have the means, PCI Express

Some AGP cards have a extra slot - that doesn't look like PCI-E, mind you it was a while ago that I installed my PCI-E card so can't really remember!

It'll fit. The agp slot should only have one notch, regardless of what the G-Card has. Bare in mind, my Radeon 9800 takes up two spaces on my motherboard (not literally, but i had to sacrifice a PCI slot for the massive fan) so make sure you have enough room.
Also the 9800 takes power from the power supply (because its 'phattt' ) so make sure your power supply has an extra cable, and can actually handle the extra strain. If its under 350w, then i recommend a new power supply also.

my 98pro AIW only takes one, but the PCI cards are kept away for heat reasons, yeah and you do need a decent PSU and a spare floppy drive power cable.
