Right I need to do something about this quick (also the other problems as well )

But this one really needs sorting first.

The head went pourous some time ago and the head was shipped to V-Tuning for overhaul (which was done) the head was reattached to the block (by the owner at the time) and i can see the new head gasket.

Cleaned out the water system fully and filled with fresh coolant. Everything fine. But the "mayo" has come back again as bad as before.

Now i find it hard to believe that the head has gone again - and if it was cracked I know for a fact this would have picked picked up by V-Tuning.

I also find it hard to believe that the head gasket would have given again so soon as i know V-Tunings work is top notch and like i say i can see the new gasket.

So i can only assume the head has not been attached correctly or torqued up right???

The oil is perfectly clean and not using any oil at all really but the water system is really clogged which in turn worries me that the car cannot cool itself ok (plus the problem with the intermittant fan) this really concerns me, as the water pump could be working harder than it should do.

Any thoughts? (Cost effective - lol)

I have ordered all new water hoses as well today but im not going to stick them on to the car until i know this is sorted.

I have been advised by a very good Vauxhall technican who looked over the car when i bought it - that i may need to wash the system out a good 4 or 5 times because it might come good again - but i dont see how this could be.

Sorry for the essay but i thought i would give all the information - any help would really help me

the head may be under warrenty by v'tuning so take it to them and see what they say?

compression test results? warm and cold?

My c20xe used to give a little junk in the tank.... but noting was a miss...

the headgasket was on its way out and eventualy went through a fire ring on 3-4

Dont rule out the turbo aswell mate. If the housing or anything has cracked it will appear to be the head gasket aswell.

This happened to my mate when he bought is escort cossie. at fist he replaced the turbo for a stage one and then the mayo appeared. thought the head gasket had gone so he sent it up to AVA who then stripped the head opnly to find that everything was fine and it was the brand new turbo that was fecked.

maybe time for a trip to a reputable garage.... so they can shake there head and give you the " this is gonna cost ya bud" look

Hi matey

I had something very similar on a Rover 200vi I had a few years ago (1.8 K series engine) Head gasket went [Shocker! ] but as it was under warranty the work was done by Rover. Head was taken off and skimmed and a new head gasket fitted. Anyway about 6 months later it went again but this time was out of warranty so I did it myself! When I got it to bits, I found that they had re used the old head bolts which had caused the failure again. In this case they were one use stretch bolts are the the same on the LET? Only thing I can think of really pal? Either that or they havent been torqued correctly?

Ive found that most of the time, if you want a job doing properly.......do it yourself! there are very few people i trust with my car!

Well speaking to other turbo owners quite a few have had the same problem and they have commented the system really does need a dam good flush 4 or 5 times.

Not loosing either - but the mayo is getting really thick so im worried the car cant cool itself properly.

Thats the only downside to trying to work it out of the system, the fact that there could be blockages with the mayo which could result in overheating!

my red corsa did this, the breather were bloked and had left rhe head full of shit, removed the head and flused everythign out of it, new gasket and new coolent etc etc

was worried when i checked it weeks later to find mayo on the filler car, but was the moisture workign its was out of the system

run fine for months after, sold it on and still runs fine

proberly no help but a nice little story anyway

Just ordered a Z20LET gasket so thats on standby.

think ill flush the system out again and do a compression test and hope for the best.

take the rad completely out and drain it fully.... taking the pipe off just half does it..

Not read all the thread....

If the head has gone Porus, I can get a mod done to it for £200 if you take the head off and give it to me...

Think courtney charge £600 for the same!

My mates LET had the mayo syndrome, done the mod to the head and flushed the system and shes all sweet now

However we did supply him with another head as his was cracked when it was inspected. Are you sure your head isn't cracked?

Let me know if you want your head modding so it can't go porus

The pourous mod people talk of IS a crack is it not??

There is alot more info on migweb about it, but basically Gary off Mig cross-sectioned an XE head which was assumed to be porous, and found it had a very fine crack between an oil and waterway...
