Following on from my earlier thread, what mods did you do and how much did you spend roughly? Also what BHP did you have after it all?

i'd swap the mantzel for TB's.... bigger initial outlay, but better performance

my engine came with manztel fitted so i just plonked it into the bay... 125BHP from just a manztel....

I bought an engine from a company that had had a re-build, engine turned out to be dud so re-built it again with my mechanic who i trust, did 98% of the work myself, the amount i spent dont count because of set backs etc (2 engines for a start and 3 re-builds) so i spent nearly £3000 on the engine to get a pathetic 132BHP, and yes it never ran right because of it needing a re-map as it was 1625cc and the aftermarket chip was shit and coudlnt account for this

Thanks, Thats pretty much what I was looking for! Would you say that all the above mentioned mods be done one by one or would some need to be complemented by others?

ARP and mantzel and unichip together, Arp's to handle the rev limit change, unichip to change rev limit and map the new fuelling requirements and mantzel to help the engine breath easier. 
   With a manzel and TB's most power comes in at 5500rpm onwards so the ARP and needed to hold the bottom end together. 
  Head work can be done later with the cams. 
As AK said go for TB's out the box with managment they give ya 160BHP apparently,speak to SBD about this

also add a bigger bore exhaust manifold.... 
 
I did this on my 1.4 (same engine basically) 
 
If you have 1k now..... 
 
Fit cams, rod bolts and Unichip 
 
then save 1k more and fit mantzel and exhaust manifold

I think JR can get ya cheap ARP's about £65 i think 
Mantzels aint made no more, but courteney sport might be able to get you one. 
Unichip should be supplied and fitted by the specialist ya take it to to be mapped and set up on a Rolling Road

Cool! Im now thinking maybe just saving up for a few months, buying all the bits then giving it to a garage to fit all at once! Not sure if I can be doing with the hassle of fitting it all myself

PMC exhaust manifolds are quite cheap as well. 
 
£175 from FFWD I believe. 
 
Will take you some time to get all the parts and then to find someone to do all the work at once.

I fitted my mantzel in a day its quite straight forward, the arp's reqire you to drop the manifold and sump, then ya gotta remove caps off the rods and champher the bolt holes to evenly spread the load. 
  Cams leave to the experts if your not happy with timing an engine etc.

Dad used to be a mechanic and own his own garages so he knows a few people that would do the work! Im also thinking if I was to buy the parts like I said and like OJC said it will some time, it will give me a chance to get another years NCB! Im in no rush either!
