If you are stupid enough to race a superbike in car on anything but a track you should be shot for stupidity for endangering the bike rider and for the fact once the road becomes straight you might as well be in reverse.

A RS250 is much much better IMO. And this is generally accepted in motorcycle world as a better track weapon.

I did my CBT recently but bought a cheap car instead!! You can choose from,

Aprillia RS 125, Check service history as they can go wrong which can be costly so wouldnt be my first choice. early ones go for around a grand lower if your lucky.

Cagiva Mito 125, This is a tool. Very quick but can be expensive to buy and fix!! 1000+

Honda NSR 125, jap bike so built well, not lightning quick but still fun.

Yamaha TZR, early ones are abit ugly IMO late ones better
Yamaha DT, enduro style bike, fun can mod it to be very quick

Suzuki RGV, quick can buy a tidy one for under a grand.

In the 125cc range not a lot to choose from. Have a scan on ebay to see prices and go from there. HTH.

don't get a 2-stroke, although they're quicker they sound like a bumble bee and your never gonna get that much performance out of a 125 anyway! its just to pass on like you said. I'd recommend a Honda clr city-fly....can be taken off road when ya like too...

Jr hit the nail on the head...

get a Aprilia Rs 125 Extrema...

these are like 1993 - > 1998 I think

they also look better than the new aprilia's in my opinion

and take less to de-restrict (as newer ones had restricted ECU, as well as exhaust and powervalve) - where as old ones just needed a power valve.

Under 1k you'll probably need a rebuild soon - but it's not that much money, just new piston £90 and rehone the cyclinder...

plus most 125's need a rebuild every few thousand miles anyway - bikes don't last like cars do generally.

in answer to original question, depends what kinda stiye you want,

either honda nsr 125 or kawasaki kdx125 (pretty sure they did a kdx with a 125 engine)

Edited to say:

I disagree with the reliabliltiy statement on aprillia 125s, used to pop down the local bike mechanics after work just because i was really interested in the work carried out on them, had soo many aprillias come in with blown head gaskets and seized engines, could just be the fact that soo many pikeys ride them..

On the comments about the 400's, i think the comments on the RVF are highly overrated, just because its got a v4 engine everybody raves them, sound quality and look nice, but the ass is too big and the performance aint the fastest 400.

My mates got the zxr400, fzr400 and rvf400, (and a gsxr600 but we only see him on the straights) out of all of them the fzr400 is the fastest however it had a full engine recondition last year, am confident if it hadnt had that that zxr would take the performance trophy, as for handling i'd say mines the baby for that

you can not do your test on a 125 unless you want to be restricted to riding only 125's. To get a full bike license, (Direct access) you usually need to do the test on a 500cc bike

yes I did my cbt on a 500cc bike so that i could go the direct access route (no restrictions)

not sure that if you take a cbt on a 125 you cant do your test on a 500 tho??
