Yes its true, and for that sub your best off with a mono amp as you are for any type of subwoofer

Under powering a sub will not "fuck it up". You will just receive a lower output from it.

Igrnore "Max" power figures. They mean nothing!

Have a look at these amps:

you will not damage the sub by under powering it. you just got to be carefull how much gain you give on the amp. When the sub tries to play the distorted signal from the amp because the amp is being overworked, that is what "fcuks it up".

Get a better amp though. It will be worth the money.

mike you told me you run the sub form the ampo you told me you got, and you said you play it loud all the time and the gains are up on the amp are they not?

so that will fuck it up becuase like corsaggh said, its playin a distorted signal

That alpines only £180 anyways, very good for the power output.

Running an amp with way low power loud will damage a sub over time as you will be sending the sub a nasty clipped signal, causing heat build up and melted voice coils.

As i have said before if you cant afford an amp with the right power rating for the sub or decent quality then get a sub with a lower power rating...

Eg a JL W0 which only needs 125w rms and will still probably outperform that audiobahn one.
