ace day out

Went up in a De havilland Rapide, flew around the aerodrome all for £32


Saw Aons spitfire do a fly past and a barrell roll Merlins really are the best sounding engine ever made. EVER.

Got to see so much, very tired as did so much walking, shall post pix tommorow

although i thought xe's on throttle bodies were meant to be the best sounding engines ever

I though that honor was the 1.4 Sport's with induction kits

I thought it was the 'sporty roar' of an Irmscher powercap on a 2.0 16v Vauxhall engine....

Oh and ollie we rushed round the hangers as it was difficult to time it right to see the Spitfire twin fly.


They had a 109, flew in BOB crashed in england due to his engine cutting out. Saw a MASSIVE folding wing german plane was stunning. Didnt get a chancve to catch the name. seriously have to go back u just cant see it all in one day...

Doesn't a Subaru engine sound like that thrap thrap though because of the manifold? I.e. if you put an equal length one on, it would sound normal?

From what some people say, yes. Others put it down to the diagonal timing sequence:

1......3
4......2

Something like that... not entirely sure.

Its so thin! It literally is 2 engines. Thats it, the fuselage is tiny! Still the fastest plane in the world

Why is there a fake Memphis Belle there? The real one is in a warehouse in funny enough Memphis, America.

Its a totally wrong model B17 as well, thats a "G" model where as the real Memphis Belle was a "F" and had no nose dorsal turret.

Was that the one from the film? If so they must have removed the turret from the front.

Im guessing they used toi for the film ollie. On the other side it had its porper name "sally B" and a 40's style model on the side.

SO guessing it was for use in the film somehow!
