they are actually 1.9's if u want to get nit picky  they come in 3 flavours so it is entirely dependent on which one he is getting. 110bhp, 130bhp or 150bhp. my gf's dad has the 150bhp 6 speed gti tdi and yes it is VERY quick.

He wasn't being nit picky, the newer Golfs are 2.0 TDi (I mean the younger cars from the old model, not the new Golf which is also 2.0 TDi).
