LOL it doesn't know whether the cameras have film or not, how could it!?!

IME most cameras don't have film, cos I've never had a ticket and I've set a few off. A lot of cameras are dummies as well and just have a crude radar mechanism in that makes the flash go off but don't have properly calibrated radar or camera mechanism. Just to make people shit themselves and slow down.

The Road Angel has a map stored in it's memory, with known fixed speed cameras and the locations where mobile cameras usually operate marked onto it. It has a GPS receiver which uses satellites to locate your position, compare it to the map, and tell you when there is a camera location nearby.

The Road Angel also knows your speed of movement by triangulation of the GPS receiver's movement against the fixed positions of the satellites in space. Therefore you can get a fairly accurate readout of your current speed (compared to your speedo, which may be out a little bit).

True. I think there's a button on Road Angels, which you can press to store custom locations, so u can tell it if you see a new camera and it remembers it for next time. Not to sure though as I don't have one.

You can update them online as well, so as more cameras are discovered, you update your unit and it knows about the newer cameras.

Road Angels are good for alerting you to cameras during lapses of concentration, but having one doesn't negate the need to drive with your eyes open

Mobile cameras round here are positioned in front of the vans, so you see the big fluorescent yellow and black back doors of the van as you're bombing down the road before the camera can see you.

It's cheaper just to stick to the speed limit.
