Right have 5 years experience in IT desktop/network support and have decided to leave my permanent position and do some contracting.
Thing is where to start? set up on company? work under an umbrella company? I might have an interview for a field engineer role on 1 month contract later but dont know what i need to do re inland revenue/payroll etc?
anyone in the know or any IT contracting sites out there that are useful and not full of spam/sales?

get a contract, unless you have your own ltd company you will have to go through an umbrella company to ensure your IR 35 compliant If you have a LTD company you can do it all through your accountant.
