i was just wondering, as i know dick all about wireless networking, if i have a wireless router downstairs and the signal is too weak for one of my bedrooms, is there a device i can purchase to place somewhere between the bedroom and the router? a dongle? i have no idea?
Thats assuming i cant ad-hoc connections.
Also, do the make of wireless pci cards make much difference? would i gain more speed from spending a bit more money on a dlink card?

I was having trouble with signal strength so spent £100 on this "router" basically plug RJ45 network cable into the internet bit on the bak (as this aint a modem) then buy USB/PCI Network card to match the "Max Range Router" and ur away........

just move the router up on to a wall or more central in your house

You plug the phone cable into the router, and then an rj45 cable between the max router and your normal router?

sounds like you have ADSL, so you would need to get a ADSL ethernet modem - tbh i would just buy a repeater and place somewhere in between your current router and pc

no, i currently have ADSL and a wireless router.
but ive tried the laptop in the bedroom and the signal aint all that good.

easiest option is to try moving your router even the smallest amount can make a huge differnce.
take you are using 802.11g not say 802.11a
try playing with the channels also one channel in your house may give you better reception.
other options include signal boosters that you can just plug into your router and supposidly they extend the range -dont know how well these work though.
or you could yes buy a repeater which recieves your signal and then boosts it -yet again never played with these but recon they would be better than the addon to the router. some access points have repeater functions or you can just buy a wireless repeater in itself.

U need ADSL Modem/Router with RJ45 Output which plugs into the MaxRange Router ! Then u need USB/PCI Max Range network card to use rhis, well its how I done it now I get "Excelent" coverage all over the house and in teh garden

supposidly that router is good. but extra cost to get full benfit. but get what you pay for really.
other things to check for your router or laptop is not sitting next to walkabout phone etc they can sometimes cause problems with interference. As i said before play with settings first as can change range dramitically
