then its illegal for these companies to call you
we used to get it all the time, went ex directory and whenever they called again my folks would just say that the number was ex directory, who did they get it from and if they called again then the police would be called. it all stopped after a few months.
Dont hang up tell them to take the number off their system then it doesnt go round anymore

It's annoying when they cant even speak english

CCA will take that advice thanks for that .. we have two phonelines that we need And they only seem to phone on the one at the front door (nobody ever phones it apart from my gran ) And it gets annoying as she isnt well and they are phoning say atleast 10-15 times a day between 9am and 9pm

Just try not lose your rag, tell them to take it off and if they call again then the police will be called.
In a few weeks it should stop all together
good luck

it doesnt matter if your ex-directory or not, they get their numbers from somewhere else. My parents found this other place and just told them and now we never get any calls like that any more.

dunno the name of this thing tho

If you call telewest and ask them about stopping calls from call centres they should give you a number to call for an organisation and they will stop the calls

I work in a UK call centre and all you need to do is bar any withheld numbers. If you still get calls just take a note of the number that you are being called from and give be nuisence callers people a ring and they'll then ban that number for you. Its probably the same call centre calling you so you won't need to do it too many times.

Also, if you ask them to remove you from their database they have to by law. If they still keep ringing you up then you have a good case for harasement.

its not illegal for companies to call x-directory numbers. it is though if the number is registered with the T.P.S. (telephone preferance service) you can register on here:

http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/

you can also register mobile phones as well. works great, stops all 'junk' calls.

As far as I know, though, being registered with the TPS doesn't prevent cold-calling from outside of the UK...

No, then you need Anonymous Caller Reject (ACR) which stops people who withold their number from being able to ring you.

Quite unlikely!

Forgot you said Telewest earlier on......nice to see BT being more expensive than a "competitor" on yet more "features"!
