http://www.dbpoweramp.com will convert most formats to most other formats, but you'll have to visit the Codec Central part to get the MP4 decoder.

No, because it's not a renamed MP3, it's an iTunes file.

Matt - download DBPowerAmp, it'll convert iTunes songs aslong as they're not ones you've bought off iTunes.

.MP4 is with AAC encoding, which is the MP4 codec and the Apple Lossless codec.

iTunes Matt Go into Edit, Preferences and then iun Importing change it to mp3 and then convert the song in question to mp3!
